The load action of the wind measurement tower structure can be classified into three categories based on the variability and duration of the action time: load, variable load, and accidental load.
(1) Load
Load refers to the load that is independent of statistical laws and time parameters, and its magnitude remains basically unchanged throughout the entire design reference period. Generally, permanent loads include structural self weight, fixed equipment weight, wire and mesh tension, material weight on the structure, soil weight on the foundation, soil pressure, etc.
(2) Variable load
Variable load refers to the load that is related to statistical laws and time parameters, and its magnitude can vary throughout the entire design reference period. Variable load generally includes wind load, icing load, seismic action, snow load, installation or maintenance load, live load of tower floors or platforms, temperature changes, uneven settlement of foundations, etc.
(3) Accidental load
Accidental loads refer to loads that may not necessarily occur throughout the entire design reference period, but once a significant amount of load occurs, such as the force of wire mesh breakage, the force of insulation damage to mast rope insulators or supports, etc. According to the dynamic response of the structure, it can be classified into dynamic loads and static loads. Dynamic loads are caused by the action of inertial forces, while static loads are loads that have certain dynamic characteristics that make the inertial forces and dynamic effects generated by the structure negligible.
Tall structures are tall and upright structures, so lateral loads such as wind and earthquake loads will have adverse effects on the structure. They act as horizontal forces on the structure, causing significant displacement in the horizontal direction.
